What is Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people. It is more common in tropical and subtropical climates

Mode of Transmission

Dengue can be spread from a bite of an infected Mosquito

Affected areas

Dengue is found in tropical areas such as Carribbean, South and Central America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands

Vaccination

Dengue vaccination is given Intra-Muscularly and is a 2 dose regime. The second dose is given 3 months apart from the first dose.

The duration of vaccine will last approximately 4.5 years.

Time scale

Allow at least 2 weeks before travelling for vaccination to be effective

Preventing Infection
  • Use of insect/mosquito repelling products containing DEET 50% and Picaridin 20%
  • Appropriate clothing to be worn which covers legs and long sleees
  • Taking measures to prevent bites
  • Vaccination by your pharmacist
