WEGOVY PRE-FILLED PEN

What is Wegovy
  • Wegovy is a weight loss injecting drug
  • Contains the active ingredient Semaglutide
  • Semaglutide works by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor, thereby stimulating insulin secretion and reducing blood glucose.
  • Ultimately Wegovy is involved in regulating your apetite by increasing the feelings of fullness, reduces the feelings of hunger and reduces the preference for high fat foods
  • The dosage is a ONCE Weekly self-injecting pen
  • Each pen has 4 dosages
  • Patients must have a BMI of 30kg/m2 or more, or of at least 27kg/m2 and have a risk factor or a health condition that is affected by weight
  • Wegovy is for Subcutaneous use only, it should be injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm
  • Dosage increments are increased every 4 weeks, the starting dose will be 0.25mg
  • A Wegovy PILL is now available and may be more convenient than injection, the tablet is taken ONE Daily ask your pharmacist for more information
How long does it take to see effects
  • Wegovy starts to work within a few hours of your first injection, however to see weight loss effects this may take a few days to a few weeks
  • If your weight has not decreased by 5% in the first 6 months of using Wegovy, we may stop your medication
Wegovy Injection Pen
  • Each Pen is loaded with 4 fixed doses
  • Each week you are to inject 1 dosage of the pre-filled pen
  • Upon receiving the pen follow the instructions given to you by your pharmacist or the information leaflet given
Wegovy Tablets & Administration
  • Wegovy tablets come in 4 difference strengths (see below)
  • Semaglutide (Wegovy) tablets are for oral use
  • Tablets should be taken on an empty stomach, after a fast of at least 8 hours. They should be swallowed whole with upto 120ml of water
  • Advise the patient to wait at least 30minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medicinal products. This will avoid reduced absorption of semaglutide medication
  • Patients should read the information leaflet provided

  • Wegovy injection is available in 5 strengths
    • 0.25mg
    • 5mg
    • 1.0mg
    • 1.7mg
    • 2.4mg
  • Each strength is given for each week for 4 weeks
  • Depending on how your respond, you can stay at this dosage or increase in a step wise approach
  • Initial Dose: 0.25mg ONCE WEEKLY
  • Maximum Dose: 2.4mg ONCE WEEKLY

  • Wegovy Tablets is available in 4 strengths
    • 1.5mg
    • 4.0mg
    • 9.0mg
    • 25mg
  • Each strength is given for each week for 4 weeks
  • Depending on how your respond, you can stay at this dosage or increase in a step wise approach
  • Initial Dose: 1.5mg ONCE DAILY
  • Maximum Dose: 25mg ONCE DAILY

Missed Doses

Injectable Pens

  • If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days after the missed dose
  • If more than 5 days have been missed the dose should be omitted, and the next dose should be administered on the regular scheduled day
  • In each case patients can then resume their weekly dosing schedule
  • If more than 2 doses are missed, consider reducing and re-escalating the dose to avoid unwanted side effects when treatment is re-initiated, at higher doses speak to your pharmacist
  • If in doubt ask your pharmacist

Tablets

  • If a dose is missed, omit this dose and take the next dose the following day 
  • If in doubt ask your pharmacist
