Typhoid vaccination is one of the travel health enquiries we can discuss at Westerhailes Pharmacy in Edinburgh. Tell the team where you are going, when you leave and whether you have received a previous vaccine.
What is typhoid fever?
This infection spreads through contaminated food or water and can cause serious illness. Risk varies by destination and the conditions in which you eat, drink and stay. A travel consultation considers your own plans rather than treating every trip in the same way.
Planning your vaccination
Seek advice around six to eight weeks before departure where possible. If your trip is sooner, contact the clinic to discuss your options. The clinician will check your health and vaccination history before recommending a suitable product and schedule.
Protection does not remove every risk. Continue to take food and water precautions while abroad, even after vaccination. For background information, read the NHS typhoid fever guide.
Food, water and hygiene precautions
Wash your hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the toilet. Choose thoroughly cooked food served hot and use safe drinking water. Avoid ice when you cannot be sure how it was made. Ask your travel clinician about precautions for the places you plan to visit.
Arrange a visit in Edinburgh
Our travel clinic guide lists appointment information and published prices. Before booking, ask the team to confirm availability and the total cost for your recommended course. Bring records of earlier vaccinations so the clinician can review what you have already received.
For related information, see our hepatitis A and cholera pages. These are separate assessments, and a vaccine listed on this website is not automatically required for your journey. Use our contact details and directions to plan your visit to Westside Plaza, or view appointment options.
