
Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio Vaccine
The DTP vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus and polio. These are serious diseases that can be life-threatening.
Common Symptoms
Diphtheria: Difficulty breathing, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, chills fever bluish skin and sore throat
Tetanus: Muscle spasms, seizure, headache, fever, changes in blood pressure or increased heart rate
Poliomyelitis: Fatigue, fever, headache, vomiting, stiffness in neck and pain in the limbs
Administration
Administration of this vaccine is given as a single dose and will protect you for approx 10 years
Transmission
Diphtheria: Person to person (sneezing, coughing or direct contact with an infected person)
Tetanus: Transmission is generally through a cut or a wound
Poliomyelitis: Person to person or ingested of contaminated food
Preventing Infection
Take hygiene measures (washing hands), avoid people with respiratory illness and avoid sharing personal items
