WEGOVY PRE-FILLED PEN

What is Wegovy

• Wegovy is a weight loss injecting drug
• Contains the active ingredient Semaglutide
• Semaglutide works by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor, thereby stimulating insulin secretion and reducing blood glucose.
• Ultimately Wegovy is involved in regulating your appetite by increasing the feelings of fullness, reduces the feelings of hunger and reduces the preference for high fat foods
• The dosage is a ONCE Weekly self-injecting pen
• The multi-dose pens listed below contain four weekly doses; follow the instructions for your supplied pen
• Patients must have a BMI of 30kg/m2 or more, or of at least 27kg/m2 and have a risk factor or a health condition that is affected by weight
• Wegovy is for Subcutaneous use only, it should be injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm
• Dosage increments are increased every 4 weeks, the starting dose will be 0.25mg
• Wegovy tablets are a prescription-only, once-daily treatment. Ask the pharmacist about suitability and current availability.

How long does it take to see effects

• Weight loss varies between individuals. Your prescriber will review your response and any side effects during treatment.
• If your weight has not decreased by 5% in the first 6 months of using Wegovy, we may stop your medication

Wegovy Injection Pen

• The multi-dose pens in this price guide contain four fixed doses
• Each week you are to inject 1 dosage of the pre-filled pen
• Upon receiving the pen follow the instructions given to you by your pharmacist or the information leaflet given

Wegovy Tablets & Administration

• Wegovy tablets come in 4 different strengths (see below)
• Semaglutide (Wegovy) tablets are for oral use
• Tablets should be taken on an empty stomach, after a fast of at least 8 hours. They should be swallowed whole with up to 120ml of water
• Advise the patient to wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medicinal products. This will avoid reduced absorption of semaglutide medication
• Patients should read the information leaflet provided

Dosages – Injectable Pen

• The usual starting dose is 0.25mg once weekly for four weeks.
• The usual steps are 0.5mg, 1mg and 1.7mg once weekly, each for four weeks, before the 2.4mg maintenance dose.
• Some adults with obesity may be prescribed 7.2mg weekly after at least four weeks on 2.4mg. This is not suitable for everyone; ask your prescriber about your treatment plan and availability.
• Do not increase, restart or change your dose without advice from your prescriber.

Dosages – Tablets

• Tablets are taken once daily, not once weekly.
• The starting dose is 1.5mg daily, increasing to 4mg, 9mg and then 25mg, with at least one month at each dose level.
• Your prescriber will confirm your schedule. Follow the patient information leaflet and do not switch between injections and tablets yourself.

Missed Doses

Injectable Pens

• If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days after the missed dose
• If more than 5 days have been missed the dose should be omitted, and the next dose should be administered on the regular scheduled day
• In each case patients can then resume their weekly dosing schedule
• If you miss more than one dose, ask your prescriber how to restart safely. Do not choose a lower or higher dose yourself.

Tablets

• If a dose is missed, omit this dose and take the next dose the following day
