SAXENDA PRE-FILLED PEN

What is Saxenda

• Saxenda is indicated for weight reduction in adults living with obesity, for use together with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity
• Saxenda works for weight loss by regulating your hunger and calorie intake. As a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, it lowers hunger stimulation in several areas of the brain, which reduces your food intake. Saxenda also helps your stomach digest food more slowly, which causes feelings of fullness
• The dosage is ONCE DAILY at any time, independent of meals. The injection site and timing can be changed without dose adjustment. It should be used around the same time of day at a convenient time
• The pen should be used with disposable needles up to a length of 8mm and as thin as 32G (needles not included). NovoFine or NovoTwist needles are suitable to use with the Saxenda Pen device.
• Patients must have a BMI of 30kg/m2 or more, or of at least 27kg/m2 and have a risk factor or a health condition that is affected by weight
• Liraglutide is for Subcutaneous use only, it should be injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm

Dose

• Starting dose is 0.6mg ONCE daily, increase by 0.6mg each week to a maximum of 3.0mg (see table below)
• The dose is increased slowly to reduce stomach and bowel side effects. If you cannot tolerate an increase, contact your prescriber before changing the schedule.
• If you cannot tolerate the next dose for two consecutive weeks, your prescriber should consider whether treatment should stop.
• For a missed dose, follow the patient information leaflet or ask your pharmacist. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed one.

How long does it take to see effects

• Weight loss varies between individuals. Your prescriber will review how you respond and whether you should continue treatment.
• For adults, treatment should be stopped if you have not lost at least 5% of your starting weight after 12 weeks on the 3.0mg daily dose. Discuss this review with your prescriber.

Saxenda Pen

• Each Pen has 18mg of the active drug, the number of doses will depend on what dosage you are taking
• Upon receiving the pen follow the instructions given to you by your pharmacist or the information leaflet given

Saxenda Price

The starting dose of Saxenda is 0.6mg, depending on the response of the individual a step-up dose is required when moving up strengths each week
