What is MMR
The MMR vaccine gives long term protection against measles, mumps and rubella.
These 3 infections spread easily between people and can lead to serious problems including meningitis and hearing loss.
Two doses of MMR give long-term protection.
Mode of Transmission
Measles can be spread through close contact with someone who has measles. This can be from the air, cough, sneeze or touching things contaminated with measles droplets.
A person with measles can spread the infection in the 4 days before they get the rash until 4 days after they develop their rash.
Method of Administration
MMR vaccine is given in 2 doses for the complete course and can provide long term protection.
MMR is given intramuscularly in the upper arm.
