What is Dengue Fever

Mode of Transmission
Dengue can be spread from a bite of an infected Mosquito
Affected areas
Dengue is found in tropical areas such as Caribbean, South and Central America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands
Vaccination
Qdenga is given as an injection under the skin, usually in the upper arm. The course is two doses, three months apart. It must not be injected into a muscle.
The need for a booster dose has not been established. Vaccination is not suitable for everyone, including people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain immune system conditions. A travel health assessment is needed before vaccination.
Time scale
Contact the travel clinic well before departure to allow time for assessment and the recommended course. Continue to avoid mosquito bites, even after vaccination.
