Period delay advice
Adult females who wish to delay their period for up to 14 days can do so via a consultation with their Pharmacist.
Treatment is not intended for regular use. Medication is to be taken before your next period is expected to begin and will delay your period for approx 3 days after you have taken your last tablet. The dose and timing depend on the medicine prescribed. Follow your own prescription and ask the pharmacist if you are unsure.
Norethisterone used for period delay is not a contraceptive. Ask about suitable contraception and tell the pharmacist about medicines, pregnancy risk and any history of blood clots. Read the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service information about delaying periods.
Explore our women’s health services for other enquiries. If you are also planning a trip, our travel clinic guide explains the separate vaccination and booking services. Contact the pharmacy with appointment questions.
